UWC Mozambique 2027-2029
Opens 18 May 2026 12:00 AM (CEST)
Deadline 18 Sep 2026 11:59 PM (CEST)
Description

Thank you for choosing to apply to United World Colleges. We are delighted to welcome you as a prospective candidate and wish you the very best as you begin this journey.

This section contains important information about the application process. Please read it carefully before proceeding. If you have any questions, please contact us at application@mz.uwc.org, and we will do our best to respond as quickly as possible.

Please allow 3-4 hours in total to complete this application. You have the flexibility to save your progress at any point and return to it at your convenience.

Only one application may be submitted per academic entry year. Applicants may not apply through multiple UWC national committees, nor apply through both a national committee and the Global Selection Programme or International Application Pathway in the same year. If the age criteria are still met, applicants are usually welcome to apply again in the following year.

Before starting the application, we strongly recommend that you review the selection process information on our website as well as the application guide. Doing so will help ensure that you are well prepared and understand the process in full.

SELECTIONS PROCESS OVERVIEW

You are applying to study for two years at one of the 18 United World Colleges, where you will work towards the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, equivalent to the final two years of secondary school.

This is the first of five stages in the selection process. In this stage, you will complete the application form, answer a number of questions about yourself, write several short essays, and provide references from a teacher and an activity leader. These materials will then be reviewed, and a number of candidates will be shortlisted for the next stage.

The application form and all references must be submitted in either English or Portuguese. We cannot accept applications written in any other language. Please ensure that you use the same language consistently throughout your entire application.

If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to the second stage of the selection process, which will involve attending a personal assessment in October or November 2026. The assessment will include a series of activities and tasks, as well as individual interviews, and may take place online or in person. Following this stage, selected candidates will proceed through additional stages, including document verification and financial assessments. These steps help ensure that all information provided is accurate and allow us to determine the appropriate level of financial support. After the completion of these stages, UWC Mozambique will allocate successful applicants to colleges in March or April 2027. Students will then begin their studies at their assigned UWC in August 2027 (or January 2028 in the case of Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa).

UWC SELECTION CRITERIA

Each of our schools and colleges has its own distinct character and identity, shaped by its host country, location, cultural context, and community. What unites them as part of United World Colleges is their deliberately diverse student body, with students from around the world bringing different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences to learn and live together, united by a shared mission to make education a force for peace and sustainability.

Each year, we look for applicants to join our schools who demonstrate the following:

Intellectual curiosity and motivation: You enjoy learning about the world around you, both inside and outside the classroom. You have at least one academic area that you are passionate about and would like to explore further. You are able to recognise global and local issues and think about them critically.

Active commitment: You share UWC’s values and show a commitment to following its code of conduct. You demonstrate humility and the ability to listen to and value the opinions of others. You recognise that people may hold different perspectives and remain open to the possibility that they may also be right. In your daily life, you strive to promote UWC’s values and act as a responsible global citizen.

Social competence: You interact respectfully with others, appreciating their viewpoints and perspectives. You are able to work collaboratively within a team to find solutions to problems. You know how to express yourself appropriately in different situations and with different people.

Resilience, self-awareness, and independence: You are able to take care of yourself both physically and emotionally in challenging situations, such as in a boarding school environment. You have developed healthy coping strategies and are able to manage difficulties without becoming easily overwhelmed. You also recognise when it is important to ask for help, both for yourself and for others.

Personal responsibility and integrity: You are able to express and reflect on your own values, and you are willing to examine them in relation to the values of others. Your behaviour within your family and community reflects your principles. You can communicate your needs clearly while remaining mindful of the needs of others, demonstrating a sense of shared responsibility.

Academic robustness: You demonstrate the potential to meet the rigorous academic demands of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme.
